Armanov DTH550FF-BL: Precision CNC Aluminum Toolhead for Dillon RL550

What does the floating die toolhead do?

This Free-Float, Zero-Play Toolhead features lock rings that allow the sizer and seater dies to float. This floating action enables the dies to center themselves precisely over each cartridge, ensuring optimal alignment and more concentric ammunition.

What is Zero Play?

This toolhead does not use the original toolhead pins supplied by Dillon. Instead, it is bolted with two M3 bolts, lifting the toolhead into the uppermost position. When you cycle cases downwards, the toolhead remains stationary, allowing cases to move in a straight line. The best practice is to slightly loosen the M3 bolts, push the index shell-plate with the case into the dies, and then tighten the M3 bolts in the toolhead's optimal position.

What is concentricity and why does it matter?

Concentricity refers to how straight the bullet is on top of the loaded round. A straight bullet will enter the rifling in the barrel correctly. Bullets that enter the rifling slightly crooked do not achieve their highest accuracy.

What’s wrong with using the OEM toolheads?

The Dillon presses are high-quality machines, but the cast toolheads have limitations. Questions arise about the flatness of the toolhead flange, the alignment of each threaded station with the shellplate, and the equal spacing of the stations. These factors can lead to potential misalignments, resulting in ammunition that isn't as concentric as it could be. The toolhead is the final link between your dies and your press, making quality extremely important. With over 100,000 EUR of dies, powder measures, and other accessories mounted in your toolhead, ensuring it's the best available is crucial.

What is different about the new CNC Machined Toolhead?

These toolheads are manufactured to the highest standards, CNC machined from 6082 aluminum, which is stronger and has less flex than a cast toolhead. All critical dimensions are machined in a single operation, ensuring that all surfaces are true and aligned relative to each other. The die holes are positioned with high accuracy, and the 7/8-14 threads are machined to tight tolerances for precise fit and alignment, resulting in dies that are more precisely centered in each hole and better aligned to the cartridge cases in the shellplate. The flange is also flatter than what can be achieved with a cast toolhead.

Free-float rings are sold separately. Usually, you need two free-float rings: one for resizing and another for bullet seating. However, you can add a free-float ring to each station.
